Two great STEM events go virtual

“Bring It On” is usually a two day engineering careers event held in Sunderland for 9-14 year olds.  This year they are offering the content online instead.

Recognising Engineering Together makes a difference

We were delighted that our collaborative project in January 2020 featured heavily in the IHEEM Magazine, Health Estate Journal, this month. To read the full article on pages 39-43 of HEJ May 2020 you can register at healthestatejournal.com/story/32638/a-successful-week-with-tomorrows-engineers

This outlines our great project involving several groups and role models going into schools in each of the five Tees Valley Boroughs. We also had an informal diversity get together to make best use of Monira’s travel from Portsmouth as our presentation shows.

Postponement of the Great Exhibition of the Tees Valley (GETV)

Unfortunately given the current climate we have made the difficult decision to postpone the Great Exhibition of the Tees Valley (GETV).

When we plan this, hopefully for late 2020 or 2021 start, GETV will help raise national and international profile of the Tees Valley in a positive way for the benefit of the whole community.

The public events and activities across all five Boroughs that celebrate all that’s new and inspiring in the Tees Valley area across industry, innovation, science, design and technology.

GETV will be built upon each year leading up to 2025 which marks the 200th year of the Stockton to Darlington Railway. In the meantime ideas and offers of support are most welcome, please email we.are.engineering.together@gmail.com.

Engineering Together once more with Zetland Radio

Our Chair Paula gets interviewed by Julie Donaldson chatting about the need for STEM and how STEM Ambassadors link school subjects to the real world.

Paula also chats about what people can do at home, to have fun and learn, by using the links in www.engineeringtogether.com/stem.

Also Engineers which find themselves with time on their hands can refer to volunteering and upskilling sections.

Listen to Julie’s show on here. At 2 hours 20 minutes is when you can hear Paula’s interview.

STEM pages launched

Let’s make the most of our time having fun whilst learning together with those at home.

In the long term these web pages are a lasting legacy which will make the best use of our future time.

We want people to share their experiences and send us what they have created or share their thoughts on what they have done.So go and visit engineeringtogether.com/stem, see what you can do to have engineeringtogether.com/fun-at-home and of course keep smiling and stay safe.

Inspiring Jo

Huge congratulations to Jo Douglas-Harris who has been shortlisted for this prestigious regional award.  We know how inspiring Jo is and glad others have also recognised it. Jo continues to lead our campaign to continue to be inclusive as an industry as we know this is the way to grow ideas.

Plans for INWED 2020

Plans are in place for a collaborative event at Middlesbrough College showcasing some of our impressive local speakers who will enthuse and encourage everyone to think about how they can Shape the World by Influencing Inclusion.

In order to include our own Jo Douglas-Harris and others with plans on ‘the actual day’ we shall be having this on 16th June 2020.

Chairs call for Volunteers

Our Committee’s and Subgroups are always on the lookout for volunteers to help support our activities.

If you are able to give your time or resources then please get in touch, we would be
delighted to hear from you.

Volunteering is good for your professional development and it makes you feel great as you can really see the difference you make.

Engineers from all sectors are welcome to join us on the Council.

Another great way of getting involved is becoming a STEM Ambassador (https://www.stem.org.uk/stem-ambassadors) and then can volunteer to help out at the events organised by Engineering Together and others.

Feel free to get in touch https://engineeringtogether.com/contact-us/
