Katie thought this was a perfect addition

Thanks to our website user Katie Hylton we have a great new range of science experiments to do at home or in your classroom.

Katie said ‘It’s a curated list of activities for kids of all ages and geared towards experiments that are easy and cheap to set up. I really think it would make a valuable addition there.’

We absolutely agreed – so check it out for yourself at https://engineeringtogether.com/fun-at-home/

2023 Transporter Bridge Award

We were very pleased to see the ICE and CIHT once again Engineering Together with Teesside University to showcase our talent.

This year the award (which EngTog reinvigorated in 2021) went to Jack Robert Ainscough who demonstrated a high degree of innovation in his final year project at Teesside University. Jack’s final year project aimed to assess the potential impact of climate change allowance on Detention Basin design, highlighting the potential flooding volumes which may occur due to the incorrect appliance of these allowances. Jack’s work is particularly valuable to minimise vulnerability and provide resilience to the impacts of climate change in urban areas.

The award was co-ordinated by EngTog Chair Paula and presented at an award ceremony at Teesside University by Joanne Roberts, the North East and Cumbria CIHT Chair and Liam Simpson, the ICE Teesside Branch Chair.

STEMFest23

Many of our members and contributors came together at this great event to inspire thousands of north east primary and secondary students.

Thanks to everyone who contributed !

Happy INWED

At Engineering Together we always mark INWED with an event which links to the annual theme #MakeSafetySeen.

This year our very own Chair spoke about her related campaign The Line at this years event alongside some great speakers who all shared how their work contributes to safety and security in places including our workplaces and transport systems as well as feeling safe in the language we use.

This event aired on 15th June 2023 and it was a collaboration between Engineering Together, WES Tyne and Tees and the Engineering & Manufacturing Network (www.emn.org.uk). Thank you to all our speakers and guests who contributed to this well received event.

Amelia helps empower others

We often get links to great resources people can use and we love this.

One of our website users, Amelia, got in touch and told Engineering Together she appreciated our website and the fact it links to wearetechwomen.com, which is a site she like a lot.

Amelia thought since we have the same common interest in women’s empowerment and feminism, she wanted to share this helpful guide, about women in the hi-tech industry: https://www.websiteplanet.com/blog/the-empowering-guide-for-women-in-tech/

Amelia said it gave her “a lot of insight into the state of the women who work in the hi-tech area, also I found it of great help to promote women in tech and I think it would be a great resource to share with your readers, especially the female ones.”

We hope you like it too.

Sustainably Engineering Together our Oceans

This was our very first in person technical event and the very first in our new Sustainably Engineering Together series ! We had 2 great speakers talking about different aspects of the Ocean.

First up was our Keynote Speaker; Richard Hixman of Healthcare Ocean – www.healthcareocean.org. The audience were held captive hearing about the importance of our oceans, how they have changed due to human activities and how we can all help. Richard stressed there are many things we can do at home and at work to REDUCE our impact by considering our: Cars, Consumption, Chemicals and Cruises.

Judy Power of the Tees River Trust told us all about local projects which are being undertaken now to make a difference for the long term health of the River Tees. Judy wowed us talking about the power of nature and in particular oysters and sea grass. You can find out more, and volunteer to help out, on their website –  www.teesriverstrust.org. Or if you book soon you can also find out more at the Tees Valley Nature Conference in Darlington on the 30th June 2023 – https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/whats-next-for-tees-nature-tickets-619818422587.

Many thanks to the Materials Processing Institute who kindly hosted this in their fantastic Fitzgerald Room and our other sponsors. And of course our other collaborators:
